In 1988, Bill founded BC Group International, a regional distributor of biomedical testing equipment. In 1994 he discovered The Great Game of Business and implemented open-book management. BC Group grew profitably for a decade, improving its gross margin, cash flow, quality, employee turnover, and customer satisfaction. The company was named to the St. Louis Technology Fast 50, a listing of the 50 fastest-growing tech firms in St. Louis, for the years 2000, 2001, and 2003. In 2005, the year he sold BC Group, he and his company received the Hall of Fame Award from the Great Game of Business.
Today Bill is a coach with The Great Game of Business, helping companies implement Open-Book Management & achieve financial success.
Working with Bill Collier and the Great Game of Business for the past 3 years has helped improve the financial and operational focus of our company. Bill has assisted in coaching our staff on critical issues in addition to the principles of Great Game. His advice and role he’s played in launching Great Game has been an asset for our company.
I am excited about the Game because the employees get involved. Meaning this is for us the employees. This gives us an opportunity to tell the company where we can improve and how to solve that problem. It also gives the employees the opportunity to see the company’s financials, which in turn empowers you to make better business decisions. I know this isn’t going to be easy but if we pull together as a team we can make this happen. And have some fun along the way. The game isn’t a one week exploration, it is a lifetime adventure.
Bill's entire approach to helping my company implement the Great Game of Business was consistent from the time we first met through the present day: affable and non-pressuring, accommodating without coddling, and at all times encouraging us to reach farther without taking inordinate risks. I strongly believe this mix of attitude and aptitude was an essential contributing factor to my team's willingness to accept his recommendations, and our company's leadership, as we learned to embrace old tools (PNL, Balance Sheet, Metrics) and new methods (Scoreboards, Incentives, High-Involvement Planning) aimed toward improving our bottom line. The results speak for themselves - an incredible increase in our net profit, despite the terrible economy.
I've had the pleasure of interviewing Bill Collier several times, and I am always impressed with the depth of his business knowledge. Recently, he appeared as an in-studio guest on my television show "It's Your Biz with Susan Solovic." He was excellent. What I particularly like about Bill, is he is a true business expert. He has had amazing success as an entrepreneur which makes his insight and advice meaningful to the small business audience. I always learn something new when I am with Bill. I truly believe any entrepreneur or business manager can benefit from Bill's experience and expertise.
Bill is the "been there, done that" guy who doesn't just tell you what to do from a "best practices" perspective. On every topic I've hired him to help me with, he brings his valuable expertise and big picture point of view to my business model and then shows me all the options I have to get from point A to point B. His advice has always been relevant, insightful and correct. You don't always hear what you want to hear, but Bill backs up his advice with a solid history of his own business performance. So his message comes not from book learning but from common sense, which I always appreciate. I highly recommend Bill for business building, strategic problem solving and positioning your company for a future buyout--the true purpose of entrepreneurship.
I have had the pleasure of working with Bill on a couple of occasions, and he came in to speak during one of goBRANDgo!'s quarterly seminars and got glowing reviews from all of the attendees. Bill is great to work with and has a deep well of knowledge and experience with businesses across the spectrum.
Bill has worked consistently as a coach wtih our parent company and our division for over 2 years. He has exceeded our expectations on many levels and continues to offer high-level results. I am always surprised at his quick and careful ideas about how to improve our business. He wastes no time, sets clear goals, and keeps on task - every step of the way. He provides information, knowledge, and expertise in Great Game of Business philosophy and applies that directly to our business goals. He has a friendly and professional manner that works exceptionally well with our diverse staff. I would highly recommend him to a friend or college and will continue to work with Bill.
Meeting and working with Bill has been one of the best things that has happened to me in my business career. Not only is he knowledgeable and passionate about the Great Game of Business but about business in general. He has shared his time with me when I needed a sounding board and is always ready to roll up his sleeves and get into the GGoB. No matter where my career path goes I know that Bill Collier will be one of the people I will work with until the end.
Bill has exceptional abilities and experience in identifying weak areas and offering true solutions. A pleasure to work with.
