People Support What They Help Create

When implementing The Game, the breakthrough comes when companies shift the entire idea of The Game from an event (bonus plan, business literacy program, etc.) to a process and begin to fully embed the process in their business.

The Great Game of Business is a process, a pattern, a system, a strategy, a way of thinking.  If you want to fully leverage the power of Open-Book Management you must persistently work the process.  What is it, you ask?  The following is a list of core characteristics or practices we see most in exceptional Open-Book Management and Great Game of Business companies.  These core practices make up the process.  They help shape the behaviors and the way of thinking that is critical to making this work.

  1. Begin with the Right Leadership
  2. Share the Why before the How
  3. Open the Books & Teach the Numbers
  4. Apply High Involvement Planning
  5. Focus on the Critical Number
  6. Act on the Right Drivers
  7. Provide a Stake in the Outcome
  8. Keep Score
  9. Follow the Action
  10. Create an Early Win

There is an order to working through the 10 practice steps.  Each practice requires attention to the prior ones to succeed.  You can’t piecemeal the practices and expect continued success.  While the 10 practice steps provide a logical progression to implementation, it’s important to remember that each practice is also overlapping and is a continuous looped process.

Unfortunately, the right approach to getting started with The Great Game of Business is not a quick fix or an easy 1-2-3.  It requires pigheaded determination to get started and keep momentum.  Fortunately, there is a proven, time-tested process to help.

Our 30 years of experience shows that the most effective way to apply the principles of The Great Game of Business is to simply “Get in the Game”.  As with any game, the best way to learn and improve is to step in and start competing.  We simply help you set up your first game and you begin to compete.

There are two effective ways to get The Game started in your organization.  You can self-implement by attending the Get in The Game Workshop or choose to work one-on-one with a Great Game Coach.  Or both?  Either way, when you choose to get in The Game – stay in.
